About the Role
Open to Remote/Hybrid candidates in Dallas, TX; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; SF Bay Area
The VP of Finance will be hands-on with all accounting and financial operations as well as lead the accounting and finance teams, and work closely with the CFO to lay the financial foundation for our next phase of growth. This position is part of the Responsive senior leadership team and shall create, document, and maintain new processes and systems to enable scaling as we rapidly grow our business. This is a formative and exciting time as we seek to define the accounting and finance function for our next stage of breakout growth. Your technical expertise and business acumen will complement and enhance a focused team of startup professionals.
This position will report to the CFO and will have an opportunity to have an immediate and meaningful impact on the company. You will also have an opportunity to hone and apply your accounting skills in a way that will allow you to develop CFO-level abilities like driving performance, financial reporting, analysis, and modeling for growth strategies.
Essential Functions
- Manage all accounting and financial operations including the general ledger, revenue, AP/AR, payroll, benefits and cash flow management
- Prepare accurate and timely financial and KPI metric information for management and investors
- Report monthly/year-end GAAP financial reports and internal reporting
- Coordinate monthly filings and yearly tax returns, periodic governmental filings, registrations, business and tax licenses, etc.
- Prepare year end working papers for each entity to be submitted to an independent CPA firm for income tax preparation
- Work with Operations Managers to ensure financial directives are followed
- Work with CFO for development of financial budgets and forecasts to project future P&L and Cash Flows
- Analyze financial data on a regular basis to make recommendations in business operations
- Evaluate and integrate new information platforms into the accounting system to provide future scale for growth
- Prepare updates for Board meetings with narrative on results, variances to plan, trends and key metrics
- Lead the annual financial audit process
- Responsible for all financial and accounting functions including accounting policy development and implementation
- Development and management of internal financial controls
- Define standards, policies, procedures, measures and organizational enhancements to meet company goals for finance;
- Develop new and improve existing business processes to assess enterprise-wide financial effectiveness for greater transparency, more accurate reporting and better identification of cost saving opportunities
- Ideally be a successor candidate to eventually step into the CFO role
- Other duties as assigned from time to time
Qualifications
Experience:
- 20+ years of overall combined accounting and finance management experience
- 10+ years of experience leading the finance function of an organization; ideally as a Vice President of Finance
- 5+ years of experience in a high growth software company- complete hands-on familiarity with SaaS financials;
- BS in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred);
- Experience with creating financial statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Experience with equity administration (familiarity with Carta or similar tools is a huge plus)
- Prior start-up company experience is a plus
Knowledge & Skills:
- A strategic business partner with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus
- Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
- Ability to motivate team members at all levels to cultivate a dynamic and highly productive work environment.
